Phyllis Ruth Swartz Wilson, 89, an Albuquerque resident since 1959, died Thursday, May 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Wilson, her brother Karl Swartz and her parents Fred and Elizabeth Swartz.She is survived by stepsons, Rex, Peter and Scott Wilson, nieces Deborah Snyder, Denise Friend, Kersten Swartz and Megan Carbajal. She also leaves behind many cousins, sorority sisters, school and work friends and many bridge buddies.Born July 2, 1936 in Akron, Ohio, she graduated magna cum laude in 1957 from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, OH where she was a recipient of the Kamm Scholarship (awarded to the senior with the highest GPA in the School of Business.) She then received an MA from UNM in 1961 and retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1990 after 30 years of service.She was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, president of the Women’s Recreation Association and listed in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities”, named both an outstanding freshman and senior. She was also listed in the 1966 edition of “Outstanding Young Women of America,” and was a member of the Albuquerque Alpha Phi Alumnae Association and Church of the Good Shepherd.At her request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers she suggested that memorial contributions be sent to the Kamm Scholarship Endowment Baldwin Wallace University Development Office, 275 Eastland Road, Berea, OH 44017.In her memory she urged that friends and family “hoist one” for her, and reach out to those in need, either financially or through some other act of kindness. “One day I’ll die, and that doesn’t frighten me . . . it will be fine, perfectly fine . . . because I’ll be taking a long wonderful nap.” (Katherine Hepburn)
