Randy Holt, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024. He was 94. Randy is survived by his wife, Carol Holt of Los Altos Hills, CA and his children, son Greg Holt and daughter-in-law Katherine Holt, and daughter Kathleen Larese, and son-in-law Steve Larese. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Kaitlin Larese (24), Pierce Larese (13), Vivienne Holt (13), Declan Larese (10), and Greyson Holt (9). Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Irene (Corrazza) Holt, father Isaac Holt, stepmother Zola Holt, and sister Patricia (Holt) Lundgren.
Randy graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1948 and attended the University of New Mexico where he received his BS in 1953 and MS in Civil Engineering. Randy was a naval officer and combat veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Toucan, a mine sweeper. He was a civil and structural engineer who owned Randy Holt and Associates, Inc. with Carol for 58 years. Many of his engineering designs are well-known landmarks in New Mexico, including the UNM Engineering Science Library, the Very Large Array, the Aerial Cable Test Facility and Rocket Sled Track at Sandia National Laboratories, the Proton Storage Ring at Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Bandshell and Bird of Prey exhibit at the Albuquerque Biopark, the Albuquerque Academy Natatorium, the Log Ride and Sea Dragon at Cliff’s Amusement Park, the Hotel St. Bernard in Taos, and many other iconic schools and structures. Randy was an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Consulting Engineering Council of NM and the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers, being an officer in most. He continued to work designing and stamping engineering projects until 2022, at the age of 92. Randy and his associates completed more than 5,000 projects over 58 years in business. He gives special thanks to Electrical Products of New Mexico for all their support and projects as well as many architectural firms in NM, TX, AZ, CO, CA and FL. Randy was a wonderfully supportive husband, dedicated father and grandfather. He spent the last few years attending all of his grandkids school and sporting events. He and Carol were active in Kiwanis supporting the La Cueva Key Club for 18 years. As avid travelers, he and Carol took many road trips around the country throughout their 49 married years together. Their favorite destinations were California beaches, Cape Cod and the East Coast for fall color. They took grandkids to Cape Canaveral, FL, as well as to Colorado and California many times. He will be missed.
The family would like to thank High Desert Hospice for their kindness and support for the final week of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Randy Holt Memorial Fund at Explora Science Center and Children’s Museum. www.explora.us or https://esccma.explora.us/Donation.aspx?CR=RF
