Raymond Edward Johnson

March 15, 1950 — May 26, 2022

Raymond Edward Johnson passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Ray was born on March 15, 1950 to Raymond and Arnette (Mancke) Johnson in Chicago, Illinois. Ray is survived by his siblings, Russell (Barb Romero) Johnson, Donna (Wally Szczecina), Gary Johnson (Randy Allensworth) and Jeff (Betty) Johnson. He is also survived by his two children Raymond Johnson II (Jennifer Rene Hill) and Jennifer (Eric) Ferris, his two granddaughters Amanda and Morgan Johnson, as well as nieces and nephews. Ray is also survived by his wife and best friend, Joan. Ray was proceeded in death by his parents and his former wife, Ramona Johnson.

Ray had a full, well rounded life. After serving as Sergent in United States Air Force Ray began his 32 year career in the trucking industry, first with Curtis Trucking and then as Vice President of Operations and Chairman of the Board at FFE Trucking Co. In 1998 Ray moved to the city of Rio Rancho, NM and in 2001 opened Ray’s Ace Hardware. Ray spent his “retirement” years being called on to do Handyman projects for friends and family members. When his health didn’t allow for him to do the work, his friends would just “pick his brain”. Ray loved his city of Rio Rancho and spent eight years on the Planning and Zoning Committee and on the Board at the Chamber of Commerce. Ray also enjoyed volunteering for 18 years at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and the Santa Fe Opera, and campaigning for his friend, Tom. Ray loved life and made it his mission to put a smile on someone’s face each day, whether it be at the grocery store, church, city hall or out and about. He loved hosting parties and planning large events at the Country Club or a rescue horse fund raiser at his home. Ray loved to see people enjoying life together. He would rather be behind the scenes making things happen than out front getting the praise. Ray leaves behind a large group of friends who will cherish their many memories of him and every now and then “take a page from his Book”. Ray’s last wish is that everyone “keep smiling”.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Johnson family home.
