Richard Stephen
Apodaca
September 2, 1947 – May 12, 2026
Richard Stephen Apodaca (Rick) passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2026.
Rick was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 2, 1947, was raised in Alameda, and lived in the North Valley. He lived a life shaped by curiosity, conversation, music, and connection. For 25 years, he taught middle school science in the Albuquerque area, encouraging students to ask questions and see the world with wonder. He later enjoyed 25 years of retirement, filling his days with travel, golf, music, storytelling, and time spent with those he loved.
Rick loved the blues, a well-told story, Irish whiskey, a guitar in his hands, and time spent in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and carried a storyteller’s spirit throughout his life. He also treasured his many longtime friendships, staying connected over the years through conversation, laughter, and shared memories.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Abigail Apodaca; his father, Augustine Apodaca; and his brothers, Augie and Dave Apodaca.
Rick is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vera Sais-Apodaca; his stepchildren, Ron Tapia and Roxanne Tapia; his grandsons, Sebastian and Julian Tapia; his niece, Lisa Roberts; and his nephew, Aaron Apodaca.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
