Richard Garcia

January 16, 1965 — September 12, 2018

Our beloved son Richard Garcia went on his spiritual journey on September 12, 2018 with the most beautiful smile on his face. 

 

Richard is a Gulf War Combat Veteran who served on the front lines with the 387th Combat Engineers in support of both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The 387th or Tough ‘Ombres earned their reputation and motto serving on the front clearing roads, bridges and towns of mines, IEDs, unexploded ordnance and other types of hazardous materials as they blazed a path for units to enter Kuwait and Baghdad. Richard earned numerous commendations including the Saudi Arabian Liberation Medal, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, and Army Commendation & Achievement Medal along with the National Defense & Southwest Asia Service Medal.

 

He was preceded in death by his sister Gerlynn Trujillo.  He is survived by his mother & father Lily & Eloy Garcia.  His second parents Barbara & Leroy Duran, his daughter Nicole Garcia, two granddaughters Bella & Envy, his brother retired Colonel Joe Garcia, sister Angel & Husband Luis Putzey and precious niece Lily Sherwood who he called his Princess.  His niece Sherilyn, Husband Andrew and their children AJ, Michael and Samuel Valles.  We would also like to thank the UNM ICU Medical Staff for all the loving care they gave to Richard & his family, the beautiful Angel that played her Harp during his passing Julietta Rabens she was a “God Sent” Richard was so loved by so many Friends & Family.  On Behalf of our family we would like to thank everyone who has shown so much love to all our Family.
