Richard Wayne Grooters

Richard Wayne Grooters, age 69, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019. He was born in Preston, MN on January 24, 1950, to Perlum and Margie Grooters. 

Richard grew up in rural Minnesota on a farm in Harmony, Minnesota and attended Harmony High School where he graduated in 1968.  As a child, Richard won numerous ribbons in 4-H club. He went on to receive his Bachelors and Masters Degrees at Wichita State University.  Richard served our nation in the United States Army as a Sergeant and was in Vietnam combat.  He received the awards of Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, 6 Bronze Star Air medals, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Richard married the love of his life, Kathleen, in 1972 in Wichita, Kansas.  Their Kansas City home was chosen as "House of the Week" by the Kansas City Star newspaper.  Richard worked as a Paramedic and was Director of Cath Labs for 32 years.  He then took up Real Estate sales.  Richard enjoyed flipping homes, investing in properties, music, gardening, designing Cath Labs and remodeling.  He belonged to the Rio Rancho Tea Party and once served as the VP.

He was preceded in death by his father, Perlum Grooters; mother, Margie Heusinkveld Grooters; brother, Allen Grooters; and his wife, Kathleen Grooters.

Richard is survived by daughter, Shannon (Martin Biddle) Biddle of Corrales, NM; granddaughter, Rylee Ann Biddle of Denver, CO; granddaughter, Lauryn Alexandre Biddle of Corrales, NM; grandson, Andrew Biddle of Corrales, NM; granddaughter, Madelyn Biddle of Corrales, NM; brother, Daniel Grooters of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Donald Grooters of Canton, MN; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Road.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Road, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM, 87124.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Richard's honor to Wounded Warriors.
