Richard Velarde

VELARDE - Richard Velarde, age 92, beloved and devoted father, grandfather, and friend, was called to his heavenly home by Lord our Savior on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. He was a life long resident of Cuba, NM, where he served as Magistrate Judge for 24 years. Richard also served as a State Representative. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, who served our country during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 23 in Cuba, NM, as well as a member of the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus Council # 13662, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Cleo Velarde; his parents, Roman and Emilia Velarde; his brothers, Roman, Ignacio, Rudy, and Vidal Velarde; his sisters, Petra Wiggins and Celina Salazar. Richard is survived by his loving and devoted sons, Richard L. Velarde and wife Elaine and Victor V. Velarde and wife Consuelo; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Richard will be greatly missed by all. A rosary for Richard will be recited this evening (Wednesday) at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Cuba, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church. Interment will follow at the Cuba Catholic Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Felix Atencio, Rick Velarde, Brian Velarde, Eric Velarde, Aaron Massey, and Roman Velarde. Honorary Bearers will be Camille Velarde, Merica Velarde, Richard Wiggins, and Louie Velarde.
