Robert Louis Abeita, 88, passed away on May 17, 2024, at his home in Edgewood after a battle with cancer. He was born on September 9, 1935, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired after a career as a machinist with the Seattle Times. Robert had a great sense of humor, he loved Lobo football and basketball, and college football in general, and was known for his mechanical and repair skills. He loved working in his shop and he’d say, “I love fixing things and when I’m bored, I break things just to fix them.” He could fix almost anything or find a work-around if he couldn’t.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Abeita, his parents, Ellen Nicholson Abeita, and Lallo Abeita, his brother, Gene Abeita, his sister, Joan Abeita, and stepson, Alan Nilsen, and he was the proud pet parent of the late great Punky. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Abeita, and Cheryl Abeita, and stepdaughters, Rebecca Lucero and Deborah Conrad.
We will miss you terribly but are grateful that you are now at peace. We will always think of you when we hear Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” and when we see a rerun of “Hawaii 5-0.”
