Robert Baldoni

March 21, 1931 — June 28, 2023

Albuquerque

Robert "Bob" J. Baldoni of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on June 28th, 2023.  Bob was born in 1931 in Mishawaka, IN to Quinto and Pauline Baldoni. At age 14, he and his family moved to Albuquerque where he graduated from Albuquerque High in 1949. He attended UNM then served in the Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He served in the National Guard. He traveled to Italy to visit grandparents and relatives and on to the miraculous site at Lourdes, France where he bathed in the miraculous waters; then stayed a while to assist the sick coming for healing in which he met the future Pope John XXIII (Cardinal Roncalli). He went on to meet Pope Pius XII in a private audience at the Vatican. He worked at Sandia Corp, ACF and finally retired from General Electric (jet engine facility) in Albuquerque. Bob enjoyed leading Boy Scout Troops through the Sandia Mountains and the Pius Club in which he met Louellen Ross. In 1962, he married Louellen Ross and raised five children. In 1993, he found a way to see Pope John Paul II in Denver, Colorado for the World Youth Day.

Bob had an everlasting, passionate and undoubting Catholic faith acknowledging himself as the biggest sinner and entrusted his Catholic faith to his children. He constantly read scripture, history and amazing spiritual books. He passed on many profound spiritual insights throughout his life. His gift of faith never wavered even through hardships. As a prayer warrior, he attended many daily Masses, offered up sacrifices and prayed the rosary daily. He held a deep devotion to Our Lord, His Blessed Mother and many Saints. He was passionately involved in many ministries and apostolates at Our Lady of Fatima Church, such as the Legion of Mary, St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Name Society, Sunday Coffee and Donuts, Usher, Greeter, lawn and building maintenance, church and school security, and all around the church assisting those in need at any time. Bob invited many people to church. He also assisted the poor and homeless through church ministries but also on his own on the streets. His membership in the Legion of Mary over six decades has also deepened his faith and prayer life. The Legion of Mary’s consistent weekly and annual meetings united him in prayer and fellowship with many legionaries across the city, state and with the international apostolate. Bob was known by many parishioners and students from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church over the years with his support and shared his many adventurous stories during his lifetime. He especially enjoyed visiting with fellow parishioners at Coffee and Donuts after Mass.

Our Merciful Lord Jesus Christ came for Dad in the month of June - the Feasts of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary of which he had particular devotions. We find consolation in that Dad was able to receive his Viaticum (spiritual nourishment in the Body and Blood of Christ: “food for the journey”) the same day he took his journey home. We believe in the promises of Christ and we ask for your continued prayers for his soul and the healing of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Quinto and Pauline Baldoni, his wife, Louellen M. Baldoni and his brother, Marion Thomas Baldoni. He is survived by his children Mary Graham (Jeff), Anne Desautels (Marty), John Baldoni (Lucia), Joseph Baldoni, and Gina Erickson (Paul); fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; sister-n-law, Jean Baldoni; brother-n-laws Chuck Ross (Carmel) and Ronald Ross (Jane); and many nieces and nephews.
