Robert Bob Hanson

Robert ³Bob² Hanson, 78, of Aztec, died on Friday, Sept., 10, 2010 in Farmington. Bob graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1951. He joined the Navy after graduating and was enlisted for four years. He worked for the City of St. Paul and then made his way out west to California then Texas. He met his ³Blackie² in 1983, and made his home in New Mexico. Bob was a construction superintendent for Babenco and HB Construction for more than 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, boating, water and snow skiing. He took pride in his beautiful flower garden. He loved spending time with his granddaughters and will be deeply missed by all of them, especially his ³little thing.² Bob was very active with the Aztec Senior Center. He was president of the Senior Center and took great pride in his responsibilities. He pitched in whenever he could, from taking seniors to the doctor to grocery shopping to delivering Meals on Wheels. He was a founding member and No. 1 recruiter for the monthly ³Chief¹s Coffee Meeting² with the Aztec Police Department. He never missed a meeting. He cherished the friendships he made with the members, especially Chief Heal and Sherri Gurule. Bob will be greatly missed by all of his special nieces and nephews and by his family and friends. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edith Hanson. Bob is survived by his wife, Lori; son, Eric E. Chavez; daughter, Leslie A.(Matthew) Kelly; grandchildren, Madeleine Chavez-Cordell, Amryn Kelly, Anicca Kelly and Acacia Southwell; sisters, Patty Brice, Peggy Howe, Judy Sloan, Barb (Mel) Winge, all of Minneapolis; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Poloino (Grace) Sanchez of Belen, Juan (Corrine) Sanchez of Belen, Florinda Kasner of Seattle, Wash., Sammy (Sandi) Sanchez of Belen, Christoval Sanchez of Belen, Nattie (Manuel) Baca of Belen, Viola (Willie) Lucero of Albuquerque, Flipe Sanchez of Belen, Steven Sanchez of Belen, Ernest Sanchez of Belen and Gilbert Sanchez of Belen; and numerous special nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at the Aztec Senior Center, 101 Park Ave. in Aztec. Pastor David Velasquez of The Master¹s Hand of Bloomfield will be officiating. Military honors provided by the New Mexico National Guard and VFW Post 2182.
