Robert Wendall McAchran
Feb. 25, 1940 - Aug. 22, 2011 Robert Wendall McAchran, 71, was safely ushered through the valley of the shadow of death and into his Lord Jesus Christ's presence on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Born Feb. 25, 1940, in Chicago, Ill., he moved to Albuquerque in 1946. Left to celebrate his life and faith in his Lord are his wife of 33 years, Karen Mills McAchran; sons Brian (Christy) McAchran of Buckeye, Ariz., John McAchran of Fort Worth, Texas, and Aaron (Roni) McAchran of Meridian, Idaho; five cherished grandchildren, MacKenzie, Chad, Casey, Riley and Quinn; and his siblings, Fran (Dale) Berglund, Pat (Gerry) Salge and Fred (Betty) McAchran. Robert was a wonderful husband, father and Boompa (grandfather), as well as a faithful friend and brother. He began his career with Mountain States Telephone in 1959, transferring to San Juan County in 1975, and retiring from Qwest Communications in 2003, after 43 years of service. He worked as unto the Lord and was not ashamed to sign his name to that work.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era, serving as a weather specialist at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Dallas, Texas. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and the will escort him to the burial. He leaves a legacy of his love of Jesus Christ. Upon his diagnosis, he stated he was ready to meet his Lord, if that was His will, and that he did not want to cheat his Lord out of a day. He declared the most important lesson of this illness to be that of humility in the face of His grace. He faced death knowing it is only a transition to eternal life and is now living in the true Promised Land, Heaven. The family gratefully acknowledges the wonderful care of Doctors Castrellon, Nguyen, Clark, Garard and the Neidharts, as well as their incredible nurses, NW NM Hospice; and all the believers who faithfully prayed and offered their help and support. Remembrances may be sent to the San Juan Medical Foundation, Riley Men's Health Fund, P.O. Box 110, Farmington, NM 87499, or NW NM Hospice, 608 Reilly Ave., Farmington, NM 87401. Robert is under the care of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 804 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington, (505) 326-3671
