Robert S. "Bob Mitchell, 88, of Farmington, passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011. Bob was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Drumright, Okla., to James Henry Mitchell and Lillie Pearl Eaves. Bob was the eighth of ten children. In 1924, the family moved to Fairfax, Okla., where Bob grew up and attended school.
When World War II began, Bob moved to California to work at a shipyard. When he received his draft notice, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Guam. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946.
Bob and the love of his life, Viola Jeanne Buxbaum, were married Aug. 26, 1946. Bob and Viola celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Aug. 26, 2011, with their children and spouses present. Bob farmed and worked for Cyclone Drilling Company in the Fairfax area.
In 1954, Bob moved his family to Farmington to join his brother as vice-president of Mitchell Construction Company. Bob retired in 1986. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his nine siblings and his first born son, John Brent.
Survivors include his wife, Viola; sons, Rob (Jan Collins), Tom (Eva Jo Goodman) and Mark (Mary Baudino); daughters, Betty (Jerry Deckard) and Susan (Larry Henderson); 16 grandchildren: and 32 great-grandchildren. His newest great-grandson was born on the morning of Bob��?�s death.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington, with the Rev. Joan Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington. Full military honors will be provided by VFW Post No. 2182. Pallbearers are Bob��?�s grandsons, Sean Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Paul Mitchell, Charlie Mitchell and Chris Henderson; and great-grandsons, Aaron Mitchell and Cameron Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers Justin Barrett, Mike Colton, Kevin Doyle, Josh Harroun, Adam Heindorff, Nate Hewitt, Garren Holman, Bubba Long, Matt Mitchell, and Mike Thomas.
