Robert Ike Sandoval

Robert I. Sandoval, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 9, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born on April 1, 1942, in Jemez Springs, New Mexico, where he was raised and where his roots remained deeply connected throughout his life.

The summer before his high school graduation, Robert worked for the Forest Service and was especially fond of riding a Jeep through the mountains. After graduating, Robert was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served from 1964 to 1966. His service was one of the many ways he demonstrated the strength, dedication, and sense of responsibility that defined his life.

Shortly after his honorable discharge, Robert assisted in the excavation for the Mary Mother of Priests Church, built for the Servants of the Paracletes, which still stands today. Robert then built a 32-year career with General Electric, beginning as a machinist and mechanic before moving into management. Retirement did not keep him still for long. He went on to become a delivery driver for Don Chalmers, which he affectionately considered his “fun” job. He enjoyed staying busy, meeting people, and continuing to contribute in his own way.

Robert was a fantastic storyteller, captivating his listeners and making them hang on to every word, listen, and laugh. He enjoyed being in the kitchen and took pride in cooking from scratch. He set an example for all his children and some of his grandchildren, teaching them the importance of cooking from scratch and taking pride in caring for the people you love.

Above all, Robert was a devoted family man and provider who took tremendous pride in caring for the people he loved. He was married to his beloved wife, Theresa, for 55 years. Together, they built a beautiful family and a lifetime of memories.

Robert is survived by his wife, Theresa; six children: Grace Park (Kevin), Arthur Prairie (Joanie), Noelle Prairie (Paul), Jeanette Prairie (Joe), Angela Sandoval (Jesus), and Eric Sandoval; 17 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest accomplishment and the legacy he leaves behind.

He was so proud of his family and all they have accomplished:

  • A professional quilter
  • A craftsman
  • Three flight attendants
  • A doctor
  • A fireman
  • Two welders
  • A realtor
  • Three soldiers
  • A research analyst
  • A pizza delivery person
  • A property manager
  • A technician
  • A National Nuclear Security specialist
  • An engineer
  • A beauty professional
  • A restaurant owner
  • A barista
  • Two servers
  • An administrative assistant
  • Two very special baseball players
  • …and more!

To Robert, these were more than occupations or accomplishments. They were the people he loved, the lives he helped shape, and the legacy he was so proud to see continue.

He was preceded in death by his father, Moises Sandoval; his mother, Maria Sandoval; his sisters, Adela Gonzales and Emma Manzanares; his brothers, Raymond Sandoval and Johnny Sandoval; and his great-grandson, Kaden Nichols.

Those who knew Robert will remember him for his hard work, strength, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family. He taught those around him the value of a strong work ethic, perseverance, and always doing what was necessary to provide for the people you love.

We will forever be thankful for all the sacrifices you made to make our lives comfortable, and we will always admire the great provider you were. We will continue to cherish our family, continue your strong work ethic, and strive every day to make you proud.

After every “I love you,” your favorite reply was always, “I love you more.”

We love you more, Pops.

We win.
