Rod Miranda

September 7, 1956 — August 2, 2025

Albuquerque

Rod L. Miranda passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on

August 2, 2025 with his family by his side.

He was a lifelong, native New Mexican born on September 7, 1956 in Albuquerque, NM. Rod attended Inez Elementary, Grant Jr High and graduated from Manzano High School in 1974. He attended UNM and then attended Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute where he received a diploma in Automotive Mechanics.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Trudi N. Miranda and Gilbert E. Miranda of Albuquerque.

He is survived by his brother, Carl Miranda, of Albuquerque and his sister Leola Curtis and Dave Kist of Fort Worth, TX., sister Lori Miranda and husband Jim Pastoor of Greenwood Village, CO., his nephew, Bryan Curtis and wife Christine and their children Owen and Stella of South Pasadena, CA., his niece, Miranda Cook and her children James and Joseph of Castle Pines, CO., Stephanie Rutherford who he treated like a daughter and by Brenda Rutherford his former wife and friend, both of Albuquerque. Rod is also survived by our Aunt Frances Gallegos and Uncle Gus Miranda and many cousins. He was preceded in death by many aunts, uncles and cousins and friends.

Rod worked at Frontier Ford as a mechanic for a couple of years. He then began a 30-year career with UPS as a package driver and became a feeder driver for the bulk of his time before retiring in 2009. He then moved to Texas for a few years after an early retirement.

After returning to NM Rod led in the shared care taking of his mother for many years until she passed. He also shared in the care of his father until his passing. Rod was a devoted son to his parents and their care.

Rod was a lifelong Dallas Cowboy and UNM Lobo fan. He was also a NY Yankee fan after giving up being a Dodger fan many years ago. He was also an avid Indy Car racing fan and a big fan of Al Unser Sr, Bobby

Unser and especially Al Unser Jr.

Rod had many friends in Albuquerque and around the state. He also had a love for several dogs during his lifetime especially his last two buddies Buster and Chewy.

Those of us who knew him well knew that he would grumble and growl sometimes, but that was temporary and he usually didn't mean it. Rod was a hard worker, a devoted son, a good brother, a fun uncle, a loyal friend and was a good man. Rod will be sorely missed by all of us.

Rod would have wanted you to remember a good memory with him

and take that forward with you in your life.

Honoring Rod's wishes, a private graveside burial has taken place at El Buen Pastor Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Chimayo, NM where he was laid to rest by his mother and maternal grandparents.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Doctor's and nurses at Presbyterian Hospital downtown for their care, concern, compassion and dignity they showed our brother.
