Ronald G. Smith

Smith, Ronald G. Age 67, a resident of Socorro for the past 20 years, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Elyria, OH on September 5, 1946, to Cecil R. and Julia M. Heath Smith. Ron grew up in Streetsboro, OH and after high school he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After the war Ron lived in Barstow, CA for 20 years before moving to Socorro. He worked for Honeywell for 32 years before retiring in 2011. He enjoyed bow hunting when he was younger and loved taking pictures. Ron married his high school sweetheart, Candice Wolfe, in 1968 and they loved to square dance and attending the annual Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. Ron was quite the handyman and was a model train enthusiast and was the current president of the Train Gang. Ron was a devoted family man and very strong in his faith. He was a very active member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Socorro. Ron will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Smith; his parents; brother-in-law, Bob Wolfe Jr.; father-in-law, Bob Wolfe. Ron is survived by loving wife of 45 years, Candice Smith; daughter, Heidi Smith; son, Ronald G. Smith Jr.; brother, Cecil Smith and wife, Lisa; sister, Bridgett Swboni and husband, Jiggs; step-brothers, John Omar and Raymond Omar and wife, Barbara; step-father, Charles Omar; step-sister, Diane McDougall; mother-in-law, Winifred Wolfe; sister-in-law, Kim Simms and husband, Bob and Wendy Fear and husband, Ray; grandsons, Robert A. Smith, Trenton D. Smith, Devin J. Smith, Isaiah M. Reyna, Matthew J. Smith, Joshua A. Smith, and Aiden X. Smith; ex daughter-in-law, Desiree Smith; and the family pet, Cody. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 27, 2014, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Socorro Chapel , 309 Garfield St, Socorro. Services will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014, 11:00 am, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1000 Goad , Socorro with Pastor Reuben Thomas officiating. Pallbearers will be Ron Smith Jr., Robert Smith, Trenton Smith, Devin Smith, Matthew Fierro, and Ed Alldred.
