PARKER - Rose Marie Parker passed away peacefully on July 3, 2009 at her home in Albuquerque after a protracted bout with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's disease). Rose was a native New Mexican who grew up in the building commonly known as the Maria Theresa restaurant in Albuquerque's Old Town. During her life Rose enjoyed and actively participated in a variety of activities such as fishing, crocheting, and water aerobics. She was also a devout member of Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church. And although many knew Rose in her capacity as a sportswoman or congregant, Rose was primarily known by her friends and family as a person who selflessly devoted herself to helping those around her. As the matriarch of a large extended family, Rose committed herself to caring for the needs of her husband, children, and grandchildren. Indeed, the contributions Rose made to her family are immeasurable. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, she will be sorely missed. Rose is survived by her husband Matthew Parker; her two of three children, Kathy Garcia Haley and Frances Garcia; several brothers and sisters including Manuel and Evelyn Torres, Tony and Elsie Vigil, Beatrice and Frank Gutierrez, Liz Maes, Joe and Jenny Romero, Albert and Maritina Romero, Ricky Romero, Barney and Geneva Parker, Wiley and Esther Parker, Andy and Shirley Parker; and her grandchildren Marlena Gonzales, Matthew Garcia, Theresa Gonzales, Jason Garcia, Brittany Garcia, Crystal Garcia, and Mariah Garcia. Rose's family would like to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to all their relatives and friends for the kind expression of sympathy extended to them during their bereavement. The family respectfully requests that any memorial contributions be made in the form of a donation to the ALS Association. MDA 6733 Academy Road, NE #D1 Albuquerque,NM 87109, 828-1331.
