Rosie M. Martinez, 69, of Bloomfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 30, 1940, in Monticello, Utah, to Vicente and Manuelita Velarde. Rosie was self-employed as the owner of her own restaurant, Rosie’s Taco Hut, and as the secretary/bookkeeper for the various construction companies owned by Rosie and her husband, Ray. She was a C.C.D. teacher, sang in her church choir and was a Cursillo leader. She was a boxing fan who loved to follow the boxing career of her son and grandson. She loved her children and grandchildren and loved to shop with her friend, Stella. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her very special aunt, Polly Langston. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ray J. Martinez; her daughters, Mary Jo (Gary) Campbell, Julie (Will) Jaramillo, Susie (Tomas) Deleon and Alisha (Charles) Barela; sons, Martin (Darlene) Martinez, Thomas Martinez and Dominic (Mariam) Martinez; brother, Tomas (Freddy) Velarde; sister, Stella (Velarde) Mabin; and by 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Robert E. Mathieu as celebrant. Pallbearers are Rosie’s grandsons, Donny Ray, Vincent, Joseph, Levi, Samuel, Luke, Colin, Thomas, Chris, Carlos, Shane, Marc and Chrissy. Honorary pallbearers are all her godsons. Special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Neidhart and his oncology staff, for the gentle and kind care given to our mother along with the ICU staff and 4th floor nursing staff at SJRMC. A special thanks to all the wonderful friends and family who generously have supported our family with prayers, food, gifts and flowers. We will greatly miss our dear wife, mother grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and godmother. We have been truly blessed with her presence for the 69 years that God gave her to us!
