Ruben Aragon, 85, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away January 30, 2023 in North Valley. He was born to Ruben T. Aragon and Lucia (Lucy) Aragon on April 21, 1937. He grew up on family land with his parents and siblings and graduated from Albuquerque High School. Ruben served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957, serving during the Korean War, with Honorable Discharge.
He had passions for golf, horses, and motorcycles. During a career spanning more than 32 years as a golf course superintendent he managed golf courses across New Mexico, Texas, and Mazatlán, Mexico and accumulated commendations and awards of appreciation from cities, golf associations, professional golfers, and golf tournament organizations for his excellent work. He a member of the Albuquerque City Hackers golf club and left an extensive network of golfing friends who knew him as a man of humor and wisdom.
His North Valley neighborhood will remember Ruben as a good man, one who would never hesitate to take care of their horses and check in on them, and someone who was a cornerstone of the neighborhood. He could often be seen taking care of his trees and lawn or relaxing in the sun near his horse and goat.
He is survived by his children: Jerry, Donald, April (Nic), RJ, and stepdaughter Mona of Albuquerque, NM; predeceased by his children Ricky, Mark, Adria, and Deanna; survived by twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is survived by siblings Mary Lou Apodaca and Naomi Snell of Albuquerque, NM, Alfred Aragon of Santa Fe, NM, and Dorothy Reeves of North Carolina, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
