Ruben Castillo

Ruben Castillo, 80 of Albuquerque NM passed away May 24th, 2022.

Ruben was predeceased by wife Griselda Marie Romero Castillo, Parents Cipriano and Amalia Castillo, and Sister, Lucia Gonzales. Left behind are sister, Del (Leffie) Dickinson, brothers Cipriano Jr. Castillo and Ode Castillo, two sons Ruben Charles Castillo and Nicolas Paul Castillo, Granddaughter’s Nicol Castillo Wicker, Amber Castillo Scott, Brooke Castillo, Tamara Castillo Todd, Grandson Ruben Castillo, and two great-granddaughters, Livi Wicker and Tatum Scott.

Ruben was a graduate of Belen high school in 1960.  He pursued a career to become an X-ray technician and worked in the trade as an X-Ray technician at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque until he retired in 1997. Ruben enjoyed farming, riding horses, visiting his parents, attending family events, traveling, camping, golfing, and dancing the night away.  He expressed to his boys the importance of hard work by making them hoe the garden, feed and water the animals, and teaching them how to fix and build things. He also encouraged Chuck and Nick to pursue a college education.   In 1982, Ruben was devastated when his wife Griselda passed away at a very early age leaving him to raise two teenage boys. 

Ruben had no trouble starting a conversation with a stranger, especially if they could speak Spanish. At the large family gatherings, Ruben was the one talking everybody’s ear off. There was always friendly banter between the aunts and uncles at these gatherings and from time to time, I would hear an Aunt or Uncle say “Ruben!” and laughter thereafter.

Ruben will be laid to rest on June 7th at 9:00AM at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery where a short graveside ceremony will take place.
