Sam Elder Gaines, 79, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on July 15, 1947, in Cullman, Alabama, to Allie and Jessie Gaines.

Sam graduated from McArthur High School in Hollywood, Florida, in 1966. On October 26, 1980, he married the love of his life, Sharon Blanco Gaines, in Hollywood, Florida. Together, they shared 45 years of marriage filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

Sam was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved his family unconditionally, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with those he loved. He especially treasured watching his grandchildren, Aryanna and Brayden, play club and high school sports and was always proud to be there cheering them on. Sam also had a special appreciation for classic cars, an interest he enjoyed throughout his life.

Sam will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon Gaines; his daughter, Samantha Bustillos; his son, Greg Gaines; his son-in-law, Andres Bustillos; and his grandchildren, Aryanna Bustillos and Brayden Bustillos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Jessie Gaines, and his sister, Judy Suro.

Sam's love, kindness, and devotion to his family touched the lives of all who knew him. The memories he created with his family and friends will remain in their hearts forever. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by those whose lives he was fortunate enough to touch.
