SAMMIE BEDFORD EDNEY, 92, a resident of Farmington since the early 1950's passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at San Juan Manor in Farmington. Sammie was born August 29, 1916 in Prague,Oklahoma the son of Newton Bedford Edney and Leona Mary Franics (Banks) Edney. Mr. Edney served his country in the US Army and received an honorable discharge. He was stationed in New Guinea during WWII. Sammie enjoyed riding motorcyles, racing, fishing, hunting, reading, boating, playing games and traveling. Mr. Edney served on the Farmington Polife force during the 1950's and was one of the first motorcycle patrol officers during that time. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Sammie is survived by his wife of 23 years Marie (Wells) Edney, son, Paul Edney; daughter, Pauline Pyburn; step-children Dennis Lukehart and Susan Hazen; sister Goldie Jones; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and many dear friends. Mr. Edney was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Benny Edney, Walter Edney, Sylvia Owen, Mildred Chapman and wife Ruth (Helms) Edney.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made in Sammie's memory to Bank of the Southwest, 320 W. Main, Farmington, NM 87401.
