Samuel Albert Bateman

October 12, 1931 — January 12, 2023

Albuquerque

We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, Samuel Albert Bateman on Thursday January 12th, 2023.

Samuel was born in Pittsburgh PA on October 12, 1931 and relocated to New Mexico in 1939. His mother and father, Helen and Carl Bateman brought the family to Los Alamos NM before moving to Albuquerque where Samuel died at the age of 91. Samuel was surrounded by all of his friends at Brookdale Assisted Living Community, his son Carl and two daughters Anne and Claire who were by his side when he passed.

Samuel attended Albuquerque High School, post high school he joined the Navy serving during the Korean War, he then returned to NM continuing his education at the Socorro School of Mines and then onto the University of New Mexico. This is where he met his wife, Judith Anne Woody in 1957. We all hope and pray that our father is with our mother now and they both rest in peace.

Samuel was a well-known Surveying Engineer and an avid Gun Collector here in Albuquerque. His favorite memories were with his family, his many dogs and walking out on the land to be surveyed. Samuel was a firearms instructor, served his community as a member of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol where he worked closely with the NM State Police.

Samuel leaves behind two daughters, Anne Calder Bateman, Claire Elizabeth Bateman and one son Carl Frederick Bateman II. He will be remembered by his children as well as his 5 granddaughters and two grandsons. Our father will be fondly remembered by many and will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew him.
