Parks, Samuel Francis
He was born in Bonhamtown, NJ on May 27, 1920. Stalwart, kind, and uncomplaining, Sam passed easily in his sleep on May 8, 2016. Until the end, he shared his friendly and positive attitude with all. He was only days from his 96th birthday. If he could write his own obituary, he'd certainly describe himself as a soldier. Serving in the U.S. Army and Department of Defense from Franklin Roosevelt’s administration until the Bi-Centennial celebrations of President Carter. He was a proud member of the Big Red One, as it battled across North Africa, Italy and Germany. He loved his wife. He and Viola met at a beach on Lake Ontario in 1938, fell in love, and have been together since. They shared the joys and challenges of a mobile military life, living in Europe, Asia and forts across the United States. With incredible ease and grace and always in the company of Viola, Sam hiked to the top of Mount Fuji, skied the slopes of Switzerland, hiked, danced, laughed and regaled all with comic and heartfelt stories. Sam enjoyed the love and respect of his family, and is fondly remembered by his wife, son, Wayne, daughter Kathleen, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
