Shane Michael Farias

September 14, 1988 — September 11, 2023

Albuquerque

On September 11, 2023 our beloved Shane Michael Farias, passed away in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico just three days before his 35th birthday. After graduating from Eldorado High School in 2007, he went on to study Journalism/Communication at the University of New Mexico where he earned a Bachelor of Arts. In 2021, he began studying at Grand Canyon University for an MBA and was set to graduate in the spring of 2024.

Shane was an accomplished writer and freelanced for multiple publications both in print and online since the age of 18. Although he covered many topics, his main passion was music. He had an encyclopedic knowledge when it came to music and was a true melomaniac. He could (and often would) discuss music with anyone at any time.

His love of music began when he was young and prompted him to learn how to play guitar. He played in multiple bands throughout high school and beyond with whom he wrote, recorded, and played original songs. And while he continued playing music, he began focusing more on his writing about music with the hope of one day publishing books within the genre.

Easygoing with a sly sense of humor, Shane’s charm was evident the moment you met him.  His ability to create lifelong connections with people was unrivaled and usually stemmed from the fact that he had a way about him that made it feel as if you had known him forever.

He was well versed in playful sarcasm and could verbally spar with anyone. Even when he was young, he could carry intelligent conversations with people of any age. His playful, mischievous nature was infectious and without the slightest hint of malice.

Shane was kind, sensitive, giving, and loving. In fact, the only thing that overshadowed his love for music, was his love for his family and friends. He rarely, if ever, missed a phone call for someone’s birthday, or holidays, and would make special calls to everyone in his life on Mother’s/Father’s Day just because they had kids.

Shane was greatly loved and will be profoundly missed. He is survived by his mother, Kelly Farias; father, Michael Farias; sister, Casey (Sloan & Mac) Bradberry; grandparents, Max and Ruby Farias, Dian Holland, and Joan Johnson; aunts, Michelle (Pete, Sam, & Sean) Rallis, Kristin (Alexis & Rachel) Carey; uncles, Keith (Gloria & Nikolas) Johnson, Kristopher (Shelby, Tabitha, Tage, & Taylor) Johnson, Tom (Jolie, Tory, Josie, & Wesley) Maszk; Vlad the Cat, and an abundance of extended family and friends.

Shane is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Larry Johnson and Rex Holland, and Klaus, his beloved pup.
