Shawn Christian Unruh, age 40, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 in Albuquerque. Shawn was born on August 25, 1975 in Newton, Kansas to Sue and Warren Unruh.
His dream was to serve his country and accomplished this by joining the United States Marine Corps in 1993 upon graduation of high school. He was injured and medically discharged from the Marine Corps and subsequently remained in Albuquerque, NM where he met the love of his life, Alicia. They wed July 3, 2003.
He was a member of the Albuquerque Browncoats and opposed the alliance gallantly. He enjoyed attending and participating in Renaissance Festivals throughout the country. Despite his disability, Shawn continued to be inspiring, optimistic and the person we all know today. He enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, traveling the world, hunting, and fishing. He truly lived life to the fullest. He touched many lives and will be missed by all. Our world will not be the same without him.
He is survived by his wife Alicia of the home, his mother Sue and father Warren of Newton, Kansas, his sister April and her husband Dave McElroy of Ellsworth, Kansas and their children Kaitlin, Addison, William and Atley and his brother Daniel May of Seattle, Washington and numerous close family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 19, 2016, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. A reception will follow the service in the Daniels Sun Room Reception Center from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
