Sherry Wellborn

July 23, 1941 — November 26, 2021

Sherry Ann Wellborn went home to be with the Lord November 26th, 2021, at 5:30pm. She was born to Clinton Clifford Burnett and Mary Frances (Green) Burnett on July 23rd, 1941, in Clovis, New Mexico. She grew up on the family farm in Broadview, NM with her younger brothers Larry and Mike. She attended grade school at Belleview, NM until second grade when the school closed and then attended school at Grady, NM where she graduated in 1959. She then attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM where she met the love of her life Bob. Bob had a daughter and son from a prior marriage, Mary Beth and Bobby. Bob and Sherry were married July 1st, 1961, and moved to Evant, TX, to run a ranch for Bob’s dad. While there Clint was born in 1962. When Bob’s dad sold the ranch they relocated to Datil, NM until Bob joined the New Mexico Game and Fish and moved to Las Cruces, then Fort Sumner where Jeff was born in 1965. They eventually moved to Reserve, NM where Bob joined the New Mexico State Police in 1969 and then moved to Quemado, NM. Once the boys started school Sherry worked as a substitute teacher and became the Assistant Post Master to Joyce Armstrong and eventually became postmaster until she retired in 1992. In 1975 Bob and Sherry purchased the Curtis ranch where they lived the rest of their lives. In 1998 Bob retired after serving as Catron County Sheriff after which he and Sherry worked together daily on the ranch until Bob’s death in 2018. Sherry continued to live at the ranch until her death as this was the only place she considered to be home.

Sherry was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband. She is survived by her brother Larry Burnett and his wife Waynette, brother Mike Burnett and his wife Debbie, step daughter Mary Beth Atwood, step son Bobby Wellborn and his wife Kari, son Clint Wellborn and his wife Jan, son Jeff Wellborn and his wife Carmen, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday December 11, at 11am at the Quemado Cowboy Church, 3742 Hwy 32, Quemado, NM. In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be made to Good Samaritan Society Socorro, 1203 Hwy 60W, Socorro, NM 87801, 575-835-2724.
