She is survived by her children: John and wife Bernadette Lundy, and Robert Lundy; Children of her heart Johnny and wife Angela Lundy and Joy Martin; Grandchildren Chris Lundy, Whitney Lundy and Wesley Lundy, and adopted granddaughter Angela Corsino; 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; sister Opal Billings Harmon, nephews, nieces and friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Lundy in 2002; father John W. Billings, mother Verna Billings, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Shirley was born in Galax, Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Shirley had 8 half siblings and 3 sisters; she was the second youngest child in the family. They lived on a farm and grew their own vegetables and raised livestock. Shirley grew up close to her three sisters Ruby, Bonnie and Opal. Shirley helped her mother and father on the family farm with crops and the animals while the other girls kept the house. Shirley met Bob Lundy as a young child; she would throw rocks at him on the way to school and thought she hated him. It turns out that wouldn’t last; Shirley and Bob were married at age 16 and 18 in Galax. Son John was born in 1954, the family moved from Virginia to Indiana and son Robert was born in 1956. The boys grew up in Indiana, Virginia, Chicago, Illinois, and Kentucky, until finally settling in Rio Rancho, New Mexico in 1980. Shirley loved sewing and worked as a seamstress, Bob and Shirley also owned and operated a vending company and Laundromat over the years. Shirley and Bob adopted their first grandchildren Johnny and Joy Lundy and raised them in their home in Rio Rancho. Shirley and Bob looked after Angela Corsino as a young child also, and subsequently did the same for grandchildren Whitney and Wesley, and great-grandchild Jeremy Lundy.
All of the kids in the family loved spending time with Bob and Shirley in the family home. Shirley has been a confidant to many; she gave great advice and was the voice of reason when she needed to be. She also would sweeten you up with candy or fill your stomach with a home cooked meal. Shirley is a breast cancer survivor for 30+ years; she was strong and healthy after winning her battle. She has been a very independent woman throughout her life, and after Bob passed in 2002 she kept her strength and continued life with the rest of her family. Shirley has been a dedicated and involved member of the First Baptist Church in Rio Rancho for over 30 years and has a deep love for the Lord, her pastors, and friends from Church. She lived a long and full life, she has been loved by so many and will be missed dearly.
