ESKOW- Sidney Eskow, long time Valley realtor, passed away on May 17, 2010. He was born on May 5th, 1924 in Palisades Park in northern New Jersey. He played varsity sports baseball, basketball and track and graduated from Leonia High School in June of 1942. He attended Bergen Jr. College and Columbia University. Sid enlisted in the Army in July of 1943 where he joined the 98th Infantry Division (Mohawk) and spent time in the Hawaiian Islands as a guard outfit. He worked his way up to become a platoon sergeant of his Ranger Company and saw action in the Philippines and later got wounded on Saipan. He later performed occupation duties in Japan. Sid came home in March of 1946 and finished college, receiving a degree in business and real estate. He married his wonderful wife, Helen, in 1948 and had 3 children, Rose, Mark and Betty. Helen and Sid did a lot of fishing together, played tennis and traveled all over the world. They moved to the Rio Communities in 1972 and he went to work with Horizon Corp. as the broker. Sid loved working in real estate because it gave him the opportunity to both meet and help people, many whom became friends for life. He was a charter member of the Evening Optimist Club, which formed in 1973. Later he went on to join the Breakfast Optimist Club where he organized and ran 7 golf tournaments. He, along with other Realtors, helped start Casa Esperanza in 1987 and volunteered for many years with them. After the demise of Horizon Corp. Sid joined Altura Realty and enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with them. Sid was recently preceded in death by his beloved wife and lifelong companion Helen, with whom he had been happily married and inseparable for the past 61 years. He will always be loved and remembered by his children; Rose (Ned), Mark (Lynn) and Betty (Ben) and grandchildren; Zach, Redwood (Colleen) and Brigitte and great grandson, Torin.
