Sofia Lucero

LUCERO - Sofia Lucero, age 84, beloved mother and aunt, was called to her heavenly home by the Lord, Sunday, October 10,2010. She was born to Jesus Maria “Chama” and Dulcinea Sanchez Lucero on June 16, 1926 in Corrales, NM and was a resident of Bernalillo, NM. Sofia was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, Jose, Ida, Cleo, Harold, Eloy, Erlinda, and Elena; a niece Dolores McGee; nephews, Robert Lucero, Michael and Joseph Cordova and Shaun R. Gutierrez. Sofia is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Aline Lucero; niece, Esther Close; nephew, Robert Gutierrez; and several grand and great nieces and nephew. Sofia was a teacher with Bernalillo Public School system for 39 years. For many years Sofia printed the church bulletin and was also instrumental in starting Religious Education in the Bernalillo area. Sofia was very proud of her students who went on to become doctors, lawyers, EMT’s, teachers and many other professions. Her babies were always very special to her. The family wishes thank Caroline and Ron, Irene and Steve and Violet and Cippi; special thanks to Vista Care Hospice including Sophia, Yvette, Maria, Christina, Janine, Annette, Sarah, Karen, Amanda, Julie, Dawn, Dr. Michael Gurule, Dr. Michael Montoya, and Dr. Joy Lovette for their care, help and support during this difficult time; also to the Bernalillo and Rio Rancho EMT’s for all their kindness and help these past years. Visitations will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services �?¯�?¿�?½�?¯�?¿�?½“ Alameda Mortuary. A rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church. Interment will follow at San Ysidro Catholic Cemetery in Corrales, NM. Casket Bearers will be Romeo Sanchez, David Sanchez, Dennis Padilla, Vincent Padilla, and Toney Garley.
