Thomas Chavez, known to many in the graffiti community as “Deam,” passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2026, at the age of 49. Born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, Thomas later made his home in Chandler, AZ. He was a talented and passionate artist whose work and name became widely recognized not only in his local community, but across the country. Through his love of painting, he left a lasting mark, both creatively and personally, on all who knew him. Thomas had a contagious laugh and truly enjoyed life to the fullest. He was known for his strong will, at times stubborn and hard-headed, but it was part of what made him uniquely himself and so unforgettable to those who loved him. Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Rudy; his stepmother, Edwina; and his grandson, Kayden. He is survived by his loving mother, Gloria, and stepfather, Larry; his two daughters, Amanda and Lilia; his grandson, CJ; his sister, Emily, and her husband, Billy; his two nieces, Kassandra and Melody, and nephew, Daniel; as well as many beloved family members, including his graffiti family, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
In accordance with his wishes, Thomas was an organ donor, giving the gift of life to others. A final act of generosity that reflects his caring nature. He will be remembered for his artistic spirit, his individuality, and the impact he made on those around him. His presence, creativity, and passion will be deeply missed. A celebration of life and burial will be held on April 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Daniel’s Family Funeral, 4310 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. A reception will follow.
