Thomas E. Lampson

Thomas E. Lampson, 66, passed from this life on Friday, August 21, 2009, after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born in Akron, OH to Robert and Virginia Lampson. The family moved to Albuquerque when Tom was 5. The Lampson's built their adobe home by hand with the children assisting. Some of Tom's most treasured memories concerned working on this home and playing with a large "gang" of kids on the West Mesa, then sparsely populated. He attended Hiland High School in Albuquerque. He joined the US Navy in 1962 and served for four years, partly in San Diego, where he met his wife Marilynne, and partly in Pearl Harbor, HI. Tom and the former Marilynne Wahlen were married on October 29, 1966 in San Diego. Following his discharge, he attended Draughan's Business College in Albuquerque, earning an Associate Degree in Business Management. He worked for Tandy Corp, Radio Shack in Albuquerque. He managed a Radio Shack store there for 10 years before transferring to Santa Fe to manage the store there. In 1980, he began work at the State Corrections facility in Santa Fe where he was employed until he retired in 2005. At that time, Tom and Marilynne moved to Aztec to begin life in a rural area. He became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Farmington, serving on the church council, and in several other capacities, including the prayer shawl ministry. He also served as a substitute teacher at Aztec High School and Koogler Middle School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Lampson and brother Richard. He is survived by his wife, Marilynne; brother Daniel and family of Whitney Texas. He leaves numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by many friends and co-workers. The church family at Trinity Lutheran will also be greatly saddened by his loss. We are all consoled by knowing his strong faith in God, and unwavering belief that his life is merely a gate to another and more glorious one. "I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever".
