Tommie S. Chavez

CHAVEZ - Tomasina “Tommie” (Silva) Chavez, 93, passed away in her sleep in Las Vegas, NM on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. She had been living with her nephew, Martin Lopez and his wife, Sally Lopez and their children, Alizandra and Amadeo Lopez since 1999. Tommie was born in San Marcial, New Mexico in 1916 to Miguel and Sinforosa (Suzie) Silva. Our Auntie Tommie grew up in Gallup, NM, resided in California after she was married to Ernest Chavez and returned to New Mexico after her husband had a stroke and resided in Albuquerque until 1999. She is survived by her nephew, Martin Lopez of Las Vegas, NM, a niece, Theresa Lopez of Texas, Sue Smith of Texas, and Marie Chavez of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Chavez; and her two sisters, Gregoria “Greg” Lopez and Jenny Chavez. Auntie Tommie loved being with people, playing cards, dancing, socializing and traveling, most recently, to see her nephew and niece play tennis all over the Southwest. In lieu of flowers, Tommie would ask that you do a loving act of kindness for another. We will honor Tommie’s request to have a gathering of friends and family to be held on Saturday, May 8th at 804 Grecian NW, Albuquerque NM from 3 p.m. to 5 pm.
