Tony
Castillo
d. Jul 21, 2026
Albuquerque
Tony Castillo, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026. He is preceded in death by his wife Olympia; three sisters, Josefina Moraga, Stella Sanchez, and Lenore Sanchez; and two brothers, Alfred Castillo and Jose Castillo. Tony, at the age of 7 years old, lost his sight. He eventually went to the school for the blind in Alamogordo, where he graduated. He also met his future wife, Olympia, there. He had several jobs after high school working for the Division of the blind, but his favorite job was working at Sandia National Labs snack bar. He dedicated his time and energy to this. He was quick witted, calculating purchases in head from customer descriptions. He was a firm believer in God. Tony attended church with family members. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He loved food, especially enchiladas, beans and red chili, but his weakness was sweets, that he loved. He loved all kinds of music, played piano and accordion. Tony retired after 40 years and married Olympia. They were involved with the New Mexico Commission for the blind. They were very active board members and attended meetings and other special social gatherings. They relied on Sun Van Transportation to a variety of locations; church, meetings for the blind, luncheons, Sandia Casino and enjoyed going to Palo Duro Senior Center. They had lunch and participated in activities. He liked to socialize and be around other seniors. He was loved by all and will be truly missed.
Services will be held at Daniels Family Funeral and Cremation 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87110. These services are currently pending.
