Tony H. Overton

Tony H. Overton, at the age of 77, was called home on Thursday January 15, 2026 while in the care of the VA Hospice Center in Albuquerque NM. Tony was surrounded by his loving family, perhaps the sweetest reflection of a life well lived. He was born in St. Joseph Missouri on November 08, 1948 the only child of parents Mattie F West and Cunnie Overton.

Tony was welcomed home by his parents and half-sister Vera Jernigan and many loving family members.

Tony was so proud of those he left on this earth. Gina, his wife of 40 years, his children, Hali Overton-Bradford (Damion), Shannon Overton-West (Ricky), Tonicia Overton all of Albuquerque NM. Step children, Teddy Lanz of Albuquerque NM, Holly Lanz-Campbell (Corey) of Rose Mount MN. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, nephews Gregory (Rock) Jernigan of Las Vegas NV, Timmy Jernigan (Tamecou) of Haslet TX, In-laws Debbie Doyle Topeka KS, Becky Davies (Sharon) Beloit KS, Cindy Locke (John) Seeley Lake MT, Scott Davies (Beth) Beloit KS, along with many more nieces, nephews and loving friends. He was a loving dog dad to Sammi.

Tony was Honorably discharged from the United States Army. He was stationed in Dong Tam South Vietnam from March 1969 until March 1970 during the height of the Vietnam War. He was then transferred to Badkissigen, Germany for the remainder of his military service. He worked as a combat engineer where he was exposed to Agent Orange.

Though he was born in St. Joseph Missouri, Tony lived in many places during his childhood and adult life. Tony and Gina finally settled in Albuquerque. Tony retired as a Teamster from Yellow Freight Trucking Company. He loved working in his yard, which he took great pride in. He enjoyed working with his hands, home projects and woodworking. He was a lover of history. He also loved watching his football team the KC Chiefs. He valued hosting gatherings at his home for his large family. He would sit outside while smoking briskets, barbecuing his famous ribs and watching “the littles” play in the yard. All the neighbors knew when Tony was at one of his 5 grills or smokers. While the barbecue coals have cooled and our favorite ribs will be missed, one thing is for sure he will forever be Loved and forever missed.
