Sandager, Vernon S.

A resident of Albuquerque since 1964, Vern was born June 19, 1920 on a farm near Tyler, MN and he died on Friday, May 22, 2015, in Albuquerque, NM.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; parents, Hilda and Peder Sandager; and brothers, Wallace, Donald and Norman.  During World War II, he saw combat in the SW Pacific until the war ended.  Then he was stationed in southern Japan for three months.  He completed college at the University of Minnesota and had a career in adjusting insurance claims for 40 years.  He was transferred by the Aetna from Minneapolis to Albuquerque in 1964 to be in charge of their claim office.  He retired in 1990, working the last five years for Keenan and Associates.  Vern enjoyed playing golf and bridge.  Gloria and Vern went to the gym almost three times a week for many years; they also enjoyed driving to all 48 states and sightseeing.  They traveled in Europe and cruised to many places, including Alaska and Hawaii.  Gloria and Vern had a loving and happy marriage for 63 years.  Vern is survived by his sisters, Phyllis and Betty; son, Stephen, and wife, Michele, of Albuquerque; daughter, Karen Lathrop, and husband, Robert, of Kailua Kona, HI; grandson, David Sandager, and wife, Laura, and great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn of Albuquerque.  The family is grateful for the care from everyone at the Woodmark at Uptown, FootPrints Home Care, Home Instead Senior Care and Presbyterian Hospice.  Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd NE.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be given in Vernon's honor to, The Storehouse, 106 Broadway Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
