Vicki Kaplanides

KAPLANIDES-Vicki Scott Kaplanides, 67, died April 20, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her best friend and adored husband, Christos. Vicki was born September 16, 1942 in Ft. Wayne, IN, and moved with her family to Portales, NM in 1948. She came to Albuquerque in 1960 to attend UNM as an honor student. Mrs. Kaplanides taught off and on with APS, but devoted most of her time to volunteering with various organizations. Among her favorites were Mortar Board Society, Delta Delta Delta, Philopticos Society, the Grecian Festival, the Albuquerque Office of Senior Affairs, and the Albuquerque Museum Foundation. The favorite “job” of her life, however, was raising the three Kaplanides children: Julie, Scott, and Miles. She adored her grandchildren Katie, Amy, Josh, and Joe. She is also survived by her father, G. Walter Scott, of Warren, IN and sisters, Sheila Harris and Heather Zalewski, both of Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Vicki’s name to KNME-TV, 1130 University Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. The family would like to extend their gratitude for all the kindness and support provided by VistaCare Hospice, Special Care, Inc., The Woodmark, and The New Mexico Cancer Center.
