Victor Neuenschwander, Sr., 76, of Mancos, Colorado, passed away Sunday, February 27th in Mancos. He was born September 30, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Edison and Doris Neuenschwander. Victor graduated from Bayfield High (Colorado) in 1952. In 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, scoring a perfect 100% on the entrance exam. As a member of the military he spent four years in active service ?¯?¿?½?¯?¿?½“ Naval Intelligence/Communications with stops in Hawaii, Alaska and the Philippines. Later he earned an Associates in Arts with Honors degree for NMSU ?¯?¿?½?¯?¿?½“ San Juan. His employment included managerial roles in the automotive, industrial and energy related industries. In addition he was also self employed as a jewelry designer and silversmith, a trade passed on to him by his father. Victor was involved in local community activities. Among them were performing, directing, lighting arrangements and set building for the San Juan Stage Company. He also taught theatre workshops and ballroom dancing at SJ College. He was involved in local youth and city league athletics in Farmington as both a coach for his children and as a participant in adult league play. His presence was always made known by his booming voice, whether it was his chatter coming from second base during a fast pitch softball game or the encouragement to his children playing ball at one of the local venues and at times by the harassment going out to the referees and umpires. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting and passed that love on to each of his children. Victor was also an inventor and has four of his inventions patented and registered with the U.S. Patent Office. He loved the Four Corners area, its life, activities and people. Life was not without struggles for Victor, but with the struggles came victory, his greatest being him admitting his alcoholism and beginning a path toward sobriety. In the years following he was devoted to his Higher Power and for several years was passionate in his drive to tell his story and to serve, love and help others find freedom from addiction and chemical dependency. At his passing he was living his twenty-ninth year of sobriety. Many people were impacted by his life and the work he did through Alcoholics Anonymous.
