Virgil Scott, Jr

Virgil Scott Jr., age 87, loving husband, dedicated father, well-known Albuquerque jail chaplain, went to be with Jesus on July 18, 2025 at the ABQ VA Hospice with his son at his side. 

Virgil was a devout Christian known for his jail ministry where he often sang and shared the gospel. He was a respected bible teacher. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. With his career as a computer engineer, he travelled the world. He was an army veteran receiving an honor ceremony upon passing. 

He is survived by his wife Della, son Gary, daughter Cheryl, grand children Andrea, Gabrielle, Mychelle, Gary Jr., Tiffany, and Dylan, as well as great grand children Genesis and Levi. He also leaves behind his sister Sylvia and brother Fred. Also touching his life were his long-time best friends Larry Sjoberg and Maury Baukker. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Ola Marie Horseman Scott and Virgil Francis Scott Sr., son Dennis, and daughter Sheila. 

A private interment is scheduled Friday August 01, 2025, 1:00 PM, at the Sandia Memory Gardens Book of Life Gazebo at 9500 San Pedro Dr NE, Albuquerque, NM.
