Walter Dean Minor
Sept. 8, 1942- Sept. 20, 2010 Walter Dean Minor, known as Dean, passed away Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, after a long and courageous battle that began with Goodpasture¹s Syndrome, causing many complications that resulted in his death. Dean was born Sept. 8, 1942, in Silver City, New Mexico to James Walter and Edith Laverne Minor.
He graduated from Western High School in Silver City and attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. He was a farrier (horseshoer) by trade and an avid outdoorsman. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Laverne Minor.
Dean is survived by a loving, devoted wife, Barbara Sue (Cole) Minor; his son, John Scott (Kelly) Minor of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and his daughter, Christy Lea (Paul) Kniepkamp of Pinon. He is also survived by precious and adored grandchildren, Callie and Paydon Kniepkamp, Laramee Minor and Bryce Hendrickson.
Dean¹s surviving siblings are Gene (Nancy) Minor, Leroy (Jaynelle) Minor of Aztec and Arlene Minor of Farmington.
Dean was loved by many special nieces and nephews who will miss him.
Dean married Barbara in Farmington in Dec, 1962. They happily raised their kids in Aztec. Dean and Barbara moved to Ruidoso in 1988 to pursue his career as a farrier at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.
Dean chose to donate his body for teaching and research purposes to Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in the hope that a cure for Goodpasture¹s can be found.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Greenlawn Church of Christ in Lubbock.
