In Loving Memory

William Douglas (Doug) Pendleton, 92, passed away peacefully at his Albuquerque, NM home surrounded by family on Saturday evening, December 1, 2018. He lived a life full of love and rich experiences shared by his wife of 66 years, Beryl (Bonnie) Pichea Pendleton.

Doug was born in Cleveland, Virginia March 25, 1926. He grew up mostly in Narrows, Virginia, a small town in western Virginia. He was an honor student and exceptional athlete. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy to serve in World War II.  He saw combat in the Western Pacific including in the Philippines and Okinawa.  While visiting family stationed as American diplomats in the Philippines in 2016, he was honored for his service by the U.S. Marines at the U.S. Embassy Manila.  He also was selected for the “Honor Flight” from Albuquerque to Washington DC in 2017.

After being honorably discharged in 1946, he began a career in business which included insurance sales and accounting, eventually becoming comptroller of several companies including a military contractor and a multi-state insurance agency.  After retiring in his late 60’s, Doug volunteered as a tax preparer, frequently helping elderly people of limited income at no charge.

His loving family includes his wife, “Bonnie”; two daughters, Sherrie Kahle Williams of Albuquerque, NM; Deborah Roud of Ventura, CA; and son, Michael Pendleton of Columbia, MD. Doug was preceded by his eldest son, Larry, who was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. His family also includes two sons in law, one daughter in law, eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several others who considered him as such.  For the past six months he has been lovingly cared for at home by his selfless wife, two daughters, son, son-in-law David Williams, and Armada Hospice staff.

Though not requested, donations can be made in his memory to Armada Hospice or the USO.

May his memory be eternal.
