Wilma Jean Pickard, 76, of Kirtland, NM; passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on Fri., Oct. 9, 2009. She was bornOct.20, 1933 to Cecil and Pearl West in Thatcher, AZ, and was raised on a cattle ranch near Safford, AZ. Mrs. Pickard was surrounded by horses, cattle, and a wonderful grandfather, her mother and many aunts, uncles, and as a secretary for some time in AZ. She met her husband, Paul Pickard, in Safford, AZ. They were married after his return from serving in the military overseas. They moved to New Mexico and did some farming. Paul later went into construction work and she enjoyed following him on the jobs after their children were raised. The family moved to the Kirtland area from Bloomfield in 1966. Wilma wanted to move to be near her aunt who was very ill. Wilma was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. Her lovely smile and those blue eyes will truly be missed. She is survived by her husband, Paul; daughter Paula (Sheldon) Berkun; two sons William W. and Creston T. (Janet Taylor) Pickard; five grandchildren Dawn, Brandi, Tyrell, Cody, and Elizabeth; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
