Yolanda Montoya

Yolanda Montoya, age 56, a longtime resident of the City of Rio Rancho, passed away on Tuesday, the 10th day of October 2023. She is survived by her two daughters, Samantha and Brittany, grandson, Nova, brothers, David and Jake, sister, Mandie, nieces, Savannah, Karlee and Keri, and nephew, David. As well as numerous family and friends.

Ms. Montoya was preceded in death by her mother, Lou Ella, father, David and brother, Tommy.

Yolanda was born in Albuquerque, NM and raised in the small town of Pena Blanca. She graduated high school in Bernalillo, went to college at UNM, and then moved out to Washington DC where she began her career in the Federal Government. Ms. Montoya was an employee of the Department of Interior for 35 years and was well liked and respected by her colleagues. She was very passionate about the work she did during her time in federal service.

Her hobbies included bead work, reading, listening to music, traveling, and attending concerts often, supporting her favorite sports teams the Dodgers and Raiders. Yolanda was very kind and easily made friends everywhere she went.  Ms. Montoya, through her journey with uterine cancer, became driven to advocate awareness of uterine cancer and its signs and symptoms, often sharing her journey with those she came in contact with, in the hopes of helping someone else. Per her wishes, all Funeral Services will be privately held by her immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Ms. Montoya would ask for Memorial Contributions be made in her name to a Women’s Cancer Research Organization of your choice.

She will be greatly missed by many.
