Waserman, Barbara

Barbara A. Waserman, 94, died peacefully at La Vida Llena retirement home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, January 2, 2020. She was born January 17, 1925 to Kathryn Shields Anderson and Donald Kennedy Anderson of Evanston, Illinois. She attended Evanston public schools, received a B.S. from Northwestern University in 1948 and held a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Catholic University.

She was married to Roland Paine from 1943 – 1967, and to Manfred Waserman from 1970 until his death in 2001. She is survived by daughter Cathy Paine, Wilton CT, son Jeremy Paine, Carson NM, and stepdaughter Reena Waserman Judd, Hamden CT, as well as four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her only sibling, Donald K. Anderson Jr., predeceased her.

From 1965 to 1985 Barbara worked as a librarian and Library Manager for the Fairfax County Public Library System. She was taught to read at age 4 by her brother, and was an avid reader all her life, a love she passed on to both her children.

A music lover from age 6, she sang in choir and played violin as a child. She taught herself to play piano, and enjoyed attending opera, symphony, and chamber music concerts. Barbara was also an enthusiastic traveler – throughout all the U.S. and most of Europe. She lived for two years in France and Switzerland following WWII, where she worked as a typist for the Geneva Conventions, and resided in Israel from 1985-1994. She retired to Albuquerque in 1994, where she was a member of B’nai Israel congregation and Hadassah. She remained cheerful and gracious until the end of her life and will be much missed by family and friends.

The Family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all relatives and friends who were so kind and supportive during this time. Your kindness will always be remembered. To
