Betty Irene Gilworth

Gilworth, Betty Irene 
Age 88, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 in Truth or Consequences, NM. She was born in Mount Vernon, IL on April 4, 1930, to Ovall and Velma (Williams) Wells. After graduating from high school, Betty and her parents moved to Gallup, NM. She worked for the J.C. Penny's store in Gallup until its close and then she transferred to the Penny's store in Spokane, WA. There she met her first husband, Barclay Gunderson. They moved back to Gallup and then El Paso, TX before coming to Socorro. Betty and her father managed the Montgomery Ward's store from 1968 to 1972. Betty met Ron Gilworth in 1972 and they were married in 1973. They both had a passion for fishing and competed in many tournaments together. Betty went to work for the Bank of Socorro shortly after it opened in 1973 and was with the bank for many years becoming their Assistant Vice President. She was a life member of the Eastern Star. She was very active in the Socorro Chamber of Commerce, the Civitan Club and worked at the Socorro General Hospital gift shop. Betty was a cancer survivor and spent a lot of her time and energy in helping with fund raisers for the American Cancer Society.  Betty is survived by husband of 45 years, Ron Gilworth; her sons, Byron Gunderson and wife, Mary and Bruce Gunderson and wife, Agnes; grandchildren, Barclay (Terri) Gunderson, David Gunderson, Jennifer (Martin Martinez) Gunderson, Bruce (Lisa) Gunderson II, Alicia (Gerald) Marter, and Andrea (Joshua Campos) Gunderson; great grandchildren, Alex, Aubrey, Amanda, Tyler, Laila, Trinty, Dameon, Anthony, Isaac, Micah, Asa, Cora, Neasa, Joseph, Riis, and David; sister, Marilyn Bustamonte; sister-in-law, Phyllis Gowin and husband Richard; cousins, Richard Gilworth and wife Janet. Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Socorro, 203 Spring Street, Socorro, NM 87801 on Friday, November 9,2018, at 2:00 pm. Inurnment to follow at the Socorro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wes Willis, Jerald LaFont, Richard Gowin, and Jerry Marler. A reception will be held at the First Baptist Church of Socorro following the burial.
