Carl Silva

October 11, 1947 — November 23, 2019

Carl Silva was born on October 11th 1947 in Las Vegas, NM to Emma and Carlos Silva. Carl and his family lived in Las Vegas until 1957, when they moved to Albuquerque. It’s clear that Carl connected with what would become his life’s passion, Music, at a very early age. Carl would often be found drumming with his utensils while at the family dinner table or listening to his father's radio and Big Band record collection. At the age of three Carl learned to play the accordion; drums at age 8 and singing and guitar in his early teens. It was his ability to play harmonica, sing and drum that swooned all the neighborhood girls.

In the late 60’s Carl and his band, 'The Striders' had a hit song called “Sorrow” on Columbia Records. He moved to Los Angeles and continued to perform up and down the California coast with ‘now’ famous musicians and in various venues. After several years, Carl’s family life proved challenging from a distance and he found himself back in Albuquerque where he would set the foundation for raising a family and building a successful music career. It was from Albuquerque, that Carl would go on to lead several different music groups (The Planets, Street Talk, Heart, Pink Flamingos, Carl Silva Revue), perform across the nation, publish, write and produce music. Carl, a self taught musician, was an amazing singer and played the drums, guitar, bass guitar, piano and keys, harmonica, saxophone and accordion; there wasn't an instrument that Carl couldn't pick up and learn overnight!

Over the course of his career, Carl entertained millions of listeners through his talent and charisma. A notable high in Carl’s life came in 2002 when friend and producer, John Cline, partnered with Carl on a project with NBC and NASCAR to perform music for an end of year awards ceremony. Carl’s performance was highly acclaimed and was later part of a nomination for an Emmy Award (view the recording session here - https://youtu.be/eDRfzcHA9KU).

In all of Carl’s professional success, he never lost focus to his most cherished priority: family. Carl’s life had seen many personal adversities over the years but one of his most enduring qualities was his ability to overcome these with positivity, kindness, humility, hope and optimism. He never let the worries or tragedies of life overcome the strength he provided to his family and friends. Carl’s legacy will be felt by many as an example in courage, strength and faith.

Carl Anthony Silva, aged 72, passed away at home - with his family by his side - on November 23rd 2019 in Albuquerque, NM, an important date to Carl as it was his Father's Birthday. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Janeice and his two sons, Justin and Joshua and his daughter, Skylar and his three dogs, two cats and turtle.
