Charles Augustus Erni

July 2, 1953 — April 12, 2020

Charles “Chucky” Augustus Erni (66), of Albuquerque, New Mexico went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 12, 2020,” Resurrection Day.” He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Pearlita Harper. He is survived by his beloved, devoted wife of 41 years, Joanna, his loving son, Kevin Thompson w/wife Krista Thompson, his loving daughters Tenisha Erni, Natanya Erni w/Richard Candelaria, Amber Erni and beautiful grandchildren Neveah and Shane Erni. Additionally, Charles is survived by his loving sisters Charlene Francis, Caroline, Christina and Catherine Harper, as well as his Aunts and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Charles was a hardworking family man who cherished his family and friends. Charles loved spending time with his family, which often times included “firing up the grill.” A “master griller,” Charles also knew his way around the kitchen and treated his family to French Toast and eggs on Sunday mornings. In his downtime, Charles enjoyed reading, watching “Jeopardy” and listening to music, especially Reggae. A lover of sports, Charles was a lifelong New York Giants fan and enjoyed watching baseball. He had an incredible sense of humor and a smile you will never forget.

While Charles’s world revolved around his family, he had a penchant for helping anyone in need. A generous and caring spirit, Charles would genuinely give you the “shirt off of his back.”  Whether it was inviting strangers’ home for a hot cooked meal or rescuing an animal from danger to safety, Charles truly had a heart of gold

A native of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Charles was a proud Veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving a term of 20 years. While stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM, Charles met the love of his life Joanna and settled in Albuquerque. After Charles retired from the military, he was employed by Intel until he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. With the unwavering dedication and support of his loving wife Joanna and family, Charles fought a valiant battle against Parkinson’s disease for nearly 20 years. Although, he experienced many challenges, Charles maintained an admirable level of optimism and strength throughout his days.

Although, Charles no longer dwells in the physical, let us not be sad. For we know our loved one is at peace and will forever dwell with us in spirit, in heart and in mind. As we grieve the best man we knew and loved, we not only grieve for ourselves but we grieve for the world, for what Charles offered was only good. As we honor Charles, we remember the many roles he held including husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin and friend until the end. We will forever miss Charles and nothing will ever be the same, but we can all accept that, as long as he is no longer in pain.

The Erni’s would like to Thank everyone who has reached during this difficult time. In respect of COVID precautions are being taken at this time, we ask that you wear a mask.
