David Swann

January 30, 1957 — March 19, 2020

David Wayne Swann, age 63, passed away on March 19, 2020 in Contreras, New Mexico.  David was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Russell and Teresa Swann.  He is survived by his four children, Shayne Swann, Theresa Nuckols (Nathan), Melissa McElroy (Jeremiah) and Jesse Swann (Alicia). David was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren, Isiah Swann, Kaiden Nuckols, Owen McElroy, Paige Nuckols, Connor McElroy and Henry Nuckols. David had a long career as a heavy machinery operator and spent his last 40 years living in the small town of Contreras, NM.  He was a talented musician who loved to play guitar and write songs.  He also enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and watching football with his children. He was grateful to be able to see his beloved Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl in 2018.  His motto was to “live life from the ground up” and always stressed the importance of working hard.  David had a very charismatic personality and was known for being friendly to everyone.  Even after being diagnosed with tracheal cancer in 2018, he kept his spirits high and spent most of his chemotherapy sessions cracking jokes and teasing the nurses.  They all adored him and his bright and optimistic outlook amidst a difficult journey.  Unfortunately, David lost the two-year battle against cancer and passed away in his home. In honoring his wishes, there will not be a memorial service held for David.  We love you and will forever miss our Papa Swann.
