Elsie Anaya

September 20, 1948 — November 29, 2021

Elsie Montoya Anaya, born in Socorro, NM on September 20, 1948, was welcomed into the gates of Heaven on November 29, 2021 at the tender age of 73. She peacefully took her last breath surrounded by her children in Albuquerque, NM. Elsie attended Mt. Carmel Catholic School through her elementary school years, graduated from Socorro High School in 1967 and attended Dalton Business College in Lawton, OK. Elsie married Luis Anaya on August 31, 1968. Together they built their faith in God, a life of honor, admirable love, and absolute devotion to each other.  They shared a 46-year loving matrimony until she lost her beloved Luis in 2014.

In 1975, Elsie became a kidney transplant recipient and was extremely grateful and proud of her faithful kidney that gave her life for 46 blessed years. Despite being blind, Elsie resonated grace. She was a beautiful soul who possessed a humble spirit. Her quiet strength accepted life as it came. She was a devout catholic, and her faith in God and His promise sustained her throughout her life. Elsie was brave, inspiring, loving, kind, fun, witty, and she had a great sense of humor. She loved life. The annual girls’ getaway weekend was anticipated and never failed to provide solace to her being. Elsie’s greatest love, pride, and devotion to her family was unmatched. Her nurturing spirit never wavered. Her legacy of love, strength, determination, and encouragement will remain in our hearts forever.

Elsie is predeceased by her father Cardenio Montoya; her parents Teles and Alex P. López; and her siblings Cardenio Montoya Jr., Ofelia M. Morales, and Francés M. Beasley.
