George LeRoy Evans

July 6, 1936 — March 26, 2021

George LeRoy Evans passed away at his home on March 26, 2021 at the age of 84 with loved ones by his side.  His life began on July 6, 1936.  George graduated from Malin High School June 2, 1954.  George worked on his Father and Mother’s potato farm for many years.  He delivered propane and worked in a cemetery in Malin, Oregon.  George also served as a Board Member of the Community Lounge for about a year in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

He served in the Army from 1954-1956 and then served in the Army Reserve from 1956-1962.

After being out of the Army for a few years George’s friend jokingly told him that the Marines were much tougher than the Army, so George enlisted in the Marines in 1965-1974. When asked which one was tougher, he said both were easy, just keep your mouth shut and do what you are told.  George spent many years of his life protecting our country…  George loved his country.

George moved to Roseburg in 2000 and lived there until January 1, 2020.  Jimmy and Kim Garcia cared for George for 9 years while in Oregon.  In January 2020 George decided to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico so Jimmy and Kim Garcia could continue caring for him.

George said his favorite thing about New Mexico was that even in the winter the sun still shined.

Those family members that predeceased him were his Father, Theodore Edison Evans, his Mother, Ilene Edna Evans, brother Arthur Evans and his sister Mary Ann Evans Derry.

His is survived by Jimmy and Kim Garcia, not only friends, but he was also Grandpa George and a huge part of their family. He had so many friends that loved him and that he loved too.  Paul & Mary Gilbert, Tina Evans, Debra Jensen, Valerie Reed, Ashlee Reed, Lynn Dow, Gloria & Gary Fretheim, and a very special lady, Netta Leon.  Netta took care of George at the VA hospital for 20 years. She was George’s Florence Nightingale.  She made life much easier for George.

These are just a handful of the many, many people that loved George. He was loved by everyone who met him and will be terribly missed.

There will be a viewing on April 12, 2021 from 8:30am- to 9:30am at Daniels Funeral home located at 2400 Southern Blvd, Rio Rancho, NM  87124.  We will than escort George to his final resting place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery where he will be buried with full military honors.
