Harold W. Nelson

December 9, 1932 — November 14, 2020

      Harold W. Nelson passed away Nov. 14th at his home in Albuquerque NM after a long illness. He was 87.  He is survived by his Mountainair high school sweetheart, wife Patsy (McNiel) of 67 years.  A son Jerry Nelson of Ridgecrest Ca. and a daughter Bobbie Nelson. A grand-daughter Andrea Watson, husband Kevin and great grand-daughters Reese, Zoe, Charly and Jovie of Bakersfield Ca.  Sister in-law Jane (McNiel) Ard, husband Robert and family.  Brother in-law Roger McNiel, wife Janet. Sister in-law Penny McNiel. Niece Debbie, Mike Coffman and family.  Nephew Danny and Rosanne McNiel. Many other nieces and nephews.

     Harold was born in Willard NM. Dec 9th 1932. He grew up in Mountainair where he graduated high school in 1950.  He loved to tell stories of growing up in Mountainair to all who would listen.  He enjoyed attending the Mountainair class reunions and reminiscing with old friends.  He received a BA degree from New Mexico Highland University. He also earned a BE degree in Electronical Engineering at UNM.  During his professional career he worked for Land-Air at White Sands missile range, Motorola in Phoenix AZ. and Texas Instruments in Ridgecrest Ca.  He retired from Texas Instruments after 20 years.  He became an owner of several businesses in Ridgecrest. Retiring again in 2001 he and Patsy became snowbirds from their home in Ridgecrest and their home in Albuquerque. He was an avid collector of antique radios and communication equipment.               

     He is proceeded in death by his parents Jess and Bess Nelson, brother Gerald Nelson, sister Dorothy Ann Kennedy, brother in-law Bob Kennedy and his brother in-laws Robert McNiel and Albert McNiel.

     The family would like to give special thanks to Dawn his nurse and Luz his caretaker for their great care and visits that he enjoyed and looked forward to.  The hospice staff at Presbyterian was wonderful and we are very great full for their help.
